GoTo Group, the largest digital ecosystem in Indonesia, and Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, announced Thursday the successful migration of GoTo Financial’s infrastructure to Alibaba Cloud’s data centers in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The duo said in a statement that this milestone marks a key achievement in the strategic partnership formed in September 2024 and represents a critical component of one of Indonesia’s most complex and large-scale cloud migration projects.

It also supports Indonesia’s data sovereignty goals, with all data held within the country’s borders.

The move to Alibaba Cloud’s secure, high-performance infrastructure is expected to streamline operations, reduce costs, and improve service efficiency for millions of GoPay users.

GoTo Financial is GoTo’s digital finance arm and the company behind Indonesia’s popular payment solution, GoPay.

GoTo Financial currently supports seamless digital payments for over 20 million monthly transacting users.

“By completing this migration with Alibaba Cloud, we’ve strengthened the core infrastructure that underpins GoTo Financial’s services,

“The transition also reinforces our commitment to Indonesia’s data sovereignty, with all data being held within Indonesia,” said Patrick Walujo, GoTo Group Chief Executive Officer.

“As a result of this, our company is now well positioned for the future as we continue to support millions of Indonesians with trusted, homegrown financial solutions,” he added.

Sean Yuan, Regional General Manager, South Pacific & Japan, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, said this successful migration shows how Alibaba Cloud’s technologies can support large-scale digital transformation.

“We’re proud to work with GoTo in shaping Indonesia’s digital future and look forward to deepening our partnership,” he added.

According to the statement, the project involved transferring GoTo Financial’s core applications to Alibaba Cloud, making it one of the most technically demanding digital infrastructure projects in the country.

It is noted that with over 20 million monthly transacting users, GoTo Financial demands extremely high system stability and the ability to handle a large number of concurrent transactions.

To ensure a smooth migration, the Alibaba Cloud and GoTo teams worked closely in developing a full-stack technical solution, ensuring business continuity and a seamless, non-disruptive user experience.

During the migration, Alibaba Cloud provided a comprehensive suite of products, leveraging proprietary tools including Landing Zone and Terraform to enable GoTo to achieve 100 percent Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployment, building a stable foundation for thousands of microservices.

The two teams adopted a “dual-core” architecture to gradually migrate the traffic to Alibaba Cloud, accomplishing a seamless migration with zero user impact.

Additionally, Alibaba Cloud’s three data centers in Indonesia, along with products from computing, container, database, networking, and security, provided robust support for GoTo in building a highly automated, secure, and reliable cloud infrastructure with optimal cost efficiency.

Beyond infrastructure, the partnership is also focused on talent development and innovation.

In May 2025, Alibaba Cloud partnered with GoTo and Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) to host the Alibaba Cloud GenAI Hackathon, helping to accelerate local digital talent and support economic growth.

Since the partnership began in 2024, Alibaba Cloud’s technologies have played an increasingly strategic role in strengthening GoTo’s digital ecosystem.

Looking ahead, both companies plan to expand their collaboration through new commercial initiatives to empower Indonesian businesses and support the country’s digital economy.
