Indonesia’s HiFeed secures pre-seed funding from Wavemaker Impact
HiFeed, an Indonesian cattle farming solution start-up, has on Wednesday announced the successful closure of its pre-seed funding round, led by climate-tech venture builder Wavemaker Impact (WMi).
The investment will enable HiFeed to fast-track innovative solutions that aim to decarbonize cattle farming and livestock production, transforming these into more sustainable and eco-friendly industries, HiFeed said in a statement.
In the long-term, HiFeed plans to expand its research and development efforts, enhance its technology infrastructure, and scale its solutions to reach farmers in key regions.
“Cattle farming is a vital part of the global food system, but it also has a major environmental impact,
“Thanks to Wavemaker Impact’s support, we’re closer to revolutionizing the industry with solutions that enable farmers to cut emissions while improving productivity,” said Ihsan Akhirulsyah, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of HiFeed.
According to him, the firm’s goal is to make decarbonization not only accessible but also scalable and profitable for farmers worldwide.
He noted livestock farming — cattle farming in particular—accounts for 9 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions and is one of the largest sources of methane, a major contributor to global warming.
“HiFeed is working to significantly cut methane emissions from cattle, improve feed efficiency, and promote sustainable farming practices that balance environmental stewardship with economic viability,” he added.
According to the statement, one of the biggest challenges for cattle farmers today is accessing high-performance, affordable feed, often measured by its ability to improve average daily growth (ADG).
HiFeed’s solutions target this pain point, focusing on three core pillars: methane mitigation technologies, sustainable feed solutions and carbon insetting solutions.
It is noted that the firm is developing innovative feeds with anti-methanogenic properties, as well as other technologies that enhance digestion and feeding practices to reduce methane emissions.
By investing in research, it is creating nutrient-rich, eco-friendly feed options that lower the carbon intensity of cattle farming.
HiFeed also provides tools that enable farmers to measure and reduce their carbon emissions, empowering them to achieve net-zero targets while improving profitability.
“Early results from HiFeed’s pilot projects have demonstrated promising outcomes – feed costs for farmers has lowered, alongside improved cattle growth rates,
“With Ihsan’s experience and passion for agritech, we’re confident in HiFeed’s potential to transform food systems in Southeast Asia and beyond,” said Guillem Segarra, Principal at Wavemaker Impact.
HiFeed is a start-up dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint of cattle farming through high quality feed.
The firm operates on the belief that agricultural innovation is key to tackling climate change.
The company is focused on creating cutting-edge technologies and strategies to make cattle farming less harmful to the environment.
It aims is to pave the way for a more sustainable agricultural future by addressing greenhouse gas emissions—especially methane—from livestock.
Launched in 2021, Wavemaker Impact co-founds sustainability startups with proven entrepreneurs, with the goal of building a portfolio of companies by 2035 that has the potential to reduce 10 percent of the global carbon budget.
The fund focuses on building ventures that target the biggest drivers of emissions such as agriculture, energy, industrial processes, built environment, and transport.
Its $60 million debut fund focuses primarily on Southeast Asia and includes limited partners such as the United States International Development Finance Corporation, British International Investment, Triple Jump, JG Summit, and Qarlbo Energy.
