Malaysia’s national applied research and development (R&D) center for technology solutions MIMOS Berhad has partnered blockchain firm Masverse to develop blockchain infrastructure for Malaysia.

MIMOS said in a statement on Friday that the duo have officially joined forces by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on January 23 to advance Malaysia’s national blockchain ecosystem, focusing on MasChain, a robust Layer 1 blockchain infrastructure.

The collaboration highlights the transformative potential of blockchain technology to foster efficiency, transparency, and accountability in Malaysia.

MasChain, as a locally developed Layer 1 blockchain network, is poised to address industry needs with secure and scalable solutions, including fintech advancements, supply chain traceability, Web3 platforms, and blockchain-based certification systems.

Recognizing the growing importance of blockchain in reshaping industries, this partnership emphasizes the nation’s commitment to embracing cutting-edge technology.

It reflects a vision to create impactful use cases that empower businesses and public entities while ensuring the nation remains at the forefront of digital innovation in the region.

“We are excited to partner with Masverse on this important initiative, which marks a significant milestone in strengthening Malaysia’s national blockchain ecosystem,

“By exploring the potential of MasChain’s robust Layer 1 infrastructure, we can unlock new opportunities for businesses and public entities,” said Dr Saat Shukri Embong, Acting President and Group Chief Executive Officer of MIMOS Berhad.

“This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to fostering innovation in the blockchain space and driving impactful use cases across various sectors, driving innovation and creating a more robust and secure digital economy,” he added.

Chew Kian Kok, Chief Executive Officer at Masverse, said that MasChain is built to be the strategic partner of Malaysia’s blockchain ecosystem.

“Through this collaboration, we aim to unlock new opportunities for businesses and public sector entities nationwide,” he added.

According to the statement, this partnership not only reaffirms the commitment of both parties to fostering a blockchain-ready Malaysia but also positions MasChain as one of the pivotal players in supporting the nation’s digital transformation journey.

The MoU outlines several areas of collaboration: utilizing MasChain for the Malaysia Blockchain Infrastructure (MBI) use case; conducting feasibility studies to support Masverse’s blockchain nodes within the MBI; exploring applications in fintech, traceability, and other sectors to foster efficiency, transparency, and accountability; exploring broader research and development initiatives for national adoption.

With MasChain at its core, this collaboration between MIMOS and Masverse is set to play a pivotal role in the development of Malaysia’s digital economy, said the statement.

By providing a robust and scalable Layer 1 infrastructure, MasChain empowers businesses and public entities to explore innovative blockchain applications, ultimately contributing to national progress and regional leadership in the digital space, it added.
