Malaysia’s Meta Bright forges partnership with Tunas Manja for solar PV installation
Meta Bright Group Berhad, a Malaysia-listed company, has announced a strategic partnership with Tunas Manja Sdn. Bhd.(TMG), a Malaysia-based grocery and retail operators, for solar photovoltaic (PV) installation.
Meta Bright said in a statement on Wednesday that the partnership, formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed on November 26, focuses on the installation of rooftop solar PV systems at TMG-owned, leased, and operated buildings under the Net Energy Metering (NEM) 3.0 Program.
This program allows businesses to generate their own electricity from solar power and offset their energy consumption from the grid, resulting in cost savings and reduced reliance on fossil fuels.
The collaboration also aims to explore energy efficiency (EE) initiatives across TMG’s extensive property portfolio, enhancing operational sustainability while reducing energy costs.
Meta Bright will take the lead in developing, designing, financing, installing, and maintaining the PV systems for TMG’s properties.
The first project under this partnership will commence at Tunas Manja Mart Wisma Air Putih in Kuantan, paving the way for subsequent installations across TMG’s network of stores.
“We are delighted to partner with Tunas Manja and support their journey towards greater sustainability,
“Our comprehensive solutions will help TMG reduce its environmental impact, enhance its operational efficiency, and contribute to its bottom line,” said Derek Phang Kiew Lim, Executive Director of Corporate and Strategic Planning of Meta Bright.
He also said this initiative reflects their shared commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles and highlights Meta Bright’s growing role in Malaysia’s energy transition.
“With the NEM 3.0 Program and energy efficiency measures, we aim to deliver long-term value for our partners and the environment,” he added.
According to the statement, the collaboration aligns seamlessly with Malaysia’s broader energy transition goals, as highlighted in the recent Budget 2025 initiatives.
With MYR 300 million ($67.53m) allocated to the National Energy Transition Facility and the expansion of renewable energy projects like the large-scale solar (LSS) program, partnerships like this are pivotal in advancing sustainable energy adoption.
“By combining our expertise in renewable energy with TMG’s extensive network, we are creating a blueprint for a greener and more energy-efficient future for businesses in Malaysia,” Phang said.
As Malaysia moves toward its green energy aspirations, Meta Bright said its expertise in renewable energy and innovative energy solutions positions the group as a key contributor
to its sustainability journey.
Through strategic collaborations with partners like TMG, the group said it is committed to creating impactful energy solutions that benefit businesses and the environment.
Meta Bright is an investment holding company in Malaysia with a diversified portfolio encompassing hospitality, investment property, property development, energy, leasing and financing, and building materials sectors.
Formerly known as Eastland Equity Berhad, the group rebranded to reflect its strategic direction and broaden its offerings.
TMG, which is principally involved in the business of grocery/supermarket and property development, has a grocery network of over 100 stores nationwide.
