GORO becomes first participant in Indonesia’s Regulatory Sandbox for property tokenization
GORO, Indonesia’s largest platform for fractional property investment, is the first startup to be admitted into the Financial Regulatory Sandbox supervised by the Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan, OJK) for Property Tokenization. This milestone highlights GORO’s position as a pioneer in property tokenization, providing innovative, compliant, and secure solutions for property investment in Indonesia.
The OJK Regulatory Sandbox offers a controlled environment for testing cutting-edge financial technologies and solutions under stringent oversight. GORO’s participation represents a breakthrough in property investment, merging innovation with robust compliance to redefine the sector’s future.
Transforming Property Investment in Indonesia
Property tokenization, a prime example of Real-World Asset (RWA) Tokenization, is reshaping the property market by enabling fractional ownership of real estate. This innovation delivers unprecedented transparency and liquidity, making property investment accessible to a wider audience.
GORO’s admission into the OJK Regulatory Sandbox is a pivotal step forward, showcasing its business model’s compliance with Indonesia’s highest regulatory standards. With less than 10 percent of 275 million Indonesians participating in investments, GORO aims to democratize property investment, empowering tens of millions to enter the market.
According to Standard Chartered, the market for tokenized real-world assets is projected to reach $30.1 trillion by 2034.
GORO already serves over 100,000 users from 43 countries, with its assets under management (AUM) growing by an impressive 350 percent in 2024 alone. Participation in the OJK Sandbox is expected to accelerate GORO’s growth trajectory further.
Notably, the majority of GORO’s users are Indonesians, with many of them being first-time investors who are drawn to property investment for its tangibility, passive income from rental yield, and potential for capital appreciation.
Additionally, property is often easier to understand compared to other investment options, making it an attractive choice for those new to investing.
A Testament to Innovation and Trust
Robert Hoving, Co-Founder and CEO of GORO, said, “Becoming the first participant in OJK’s Financial Regulatory Sandbox for Property Tokenization underscores our commitment to innovation, transparency, and trust. At GORO, we believe innovation and regulation are complementary forces that drive sustainable growth. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity and trust provided by OJK and look forward to shaping the future of property investing in Indonesia.”
Empowering Investors and Boosting the Property Market
As the first platform to tokenize property assets under OJK’s oversight, GORO is driving financial inclusion while addressing inefficiencies in Indonesia’s fragmented property market. Its secure, user-friendly platform empowers investors to participate in high-yield property investments, injecting liquidity and innovation into the property
sector.
“GORO’s participation in the OJK Regulatory Sandbox aligns perfectly with the government’s mission to enhance financial inclusion and foster innovation. By leveraging blockchain technology, we are making property investment more accessible, transparent, and secure,” said Andryan Gouw, Co-Founder and Chief Growth Officer of GORO.
GORO’s property tokenization model is part of the Roadmap for the Development and Strengthening of Technology Innovation in the Financial Sector for Digital Financial Assets and Crypto Assets 2024–2028, launched by OJK in August 2024.
This initiative recognizes blockchain technology as a tool for enhancing transparency, accountability, and accessibility in investment platforms.
GORO has taken an extra step to prioritize data security. In November 2024, the platform achieved ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for its Information Security Management System, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding user data and building trust among investors.
Founded in 2022 by Robert Hoving and Andryan Gouw, GORO (https://www.goro.id) has transformed property investing in Indonesia. As the country’s largest fractional property investment platform, GORO enables users to invest in premium properties, including luxury villas in Bali and residential units in Jakarta, starting from just $1.
With its fast-growing portfolio and strong performance, GORO is leading the charge to make property investment accessible, secure, and scalable.
GORO is backed by real-estate experts, including Brian Ma, founder of Divvy Homes and Iterative Capital, Dhruv Agarwala, CEO of Housing.com, Mike Broomell, CEO of Colliers International Indonesia and angels from XA Network.
