E-commerce platform TikTok Shop announced Wednesday that it is further injecting MYR 20 million ($4.74 million) into the local digital economy in Malaysia through its new #JomLokal Booster Stimulus Package, to provide enhanced support for local micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and homegrown products.

Nur Azre Abdul Aziz, Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships at TikTok Shop Malaysia, said in a statement on Wednesday that with the new funding, the firm is deepening its commitment to maintaining an inclusive e-commerce ecosystem by reinvesting into Malaysia’s digital economy and its local community.

“Since 2023, the dedicated resources and exposure provided to thousands of Malaysian MSMEs under our always-on #JomLokal initiative has consistently driven sustainable growth for Malaysian-made products,” she added.

Dr. Hajah Fuziah Binti Salleh, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), who officiated the #JomLokal Booster Stimulus Package launch event, underscored Malaysia’s vision of becoming a digital-first nation rests on the readiness of local entrepreneurs to embrace innovation.

According to her, the #JomLokal initiative is a meaningful step in that direction and showcases how industry players can help alleviate operational costs for local MSMEs to participate in the digital economy.

“We welcome TikTok Shop’s continued investment in creating an inclusive e-commerce ecosystem for Malaysians to build sustainable livelihoods online,” she noted.

She also said JomLokal campaign is not only a platform to sell local products, but more importantly, it serves as an avenue for us to build a sustainable digital ecosystem.

“This ecosystem not only drives economic gains but also fosters a more inclusive, patriotic, and competitive society,

“I believe that through continuous effort, we can position Malaysia as a model country that successfully integrates technology, entrepreneurship, and national identity into a unique framework,” she added.

It is noted that #JomLokal MSMEs must have active product listings, less than 200 monthly orders, and under MYR 1,000 monthly ($237.22) gross merchandise value (GMV) on TikTok Shop to be eligible for the #JomLokal Booster Stimulus Package.

Each seller that qualifies will benefit from the MYR 1,000 ($237.22) commission fee waiver for up to 120 days and MYR 50 ($12) advertising promote coupons, subsidized by the platform.

The additional commission fee waiver provided under the stimulus package is dedicated support for MSMEs currently participating in the #JomLokal initiative.

It is separate from the commission fee waiver under TikTok Shop’s New Seller Kickstart Program, which is open to all new sellers on the platform.

The #JomLokal Booster Stimulus Package also sponsors advertisements to promote Malaysian-made products on TikTok’s in-app search banners that appear when users search for relevant keywords.

This will continue to drive greater exposure and traffic for local MSMEs all-year-round, by tapping into the growing trend of Malaysian shoppers using TikTok Shop’s search features for both discovery and deliberate shopping.

All participating MSMEs under the #JomLokal Booster Stimulus Package are also eligible to utilize any of the TikTok Shop LIVE Hubs across Malaysia, free-of-charge for up to ten sessions each (two hours per session).

Advance bookings via the official account @stesenliveiks are required to use the TikTok Shop LIVE Hubs, which are subject to availability based on a first-come-first-served basis.

In line with its ambition to lower the barrier of entry to e-commerce, TikTok Shop said it will be intensifying its MSME upskilling efforts too by hosting a series of #JomLokal education and training sessions, including Shoppertainment workshops, creator-matchmaking events, and weekly webinars.
