Google has on Tuesday announced the integration of ShopeePay and TNG eWallet (an Alipay+ Partner) with Google Pay in Malaysia, marking Google Pay’s first eWallet integrations in Southeast Asia.

This new feature will enable Android users in Malaysia to checkout seamlessly with their preferred eWallets when shopping on mobile sites via Google Chrome, starting with selected online merchants, Google said in a statement.

This initial integration features ShopeePay and TNG eWallet, and will expand to support more partners in the future.

With 88 percent of Malaysians using eWallets in 2024, this Google Pay integration helps make online payments more convenient and secure.

By incorporating the popular eWallets that Malaysians use daily, Google Pay now offers consumers more choices in addition to card payments and extends cashless payments to the underbanked, fostering a more inclusive digital payment ecosystem.

“We are excited to bring this new Google Pay feature first to Malaysia, a market with a thriving digital payment landscape and a strong appetite for eWallet adoption,

“By integrating with trusted local platforms like ShopeePay and TNG eWallet, we are localizing Google Pay to match their everyday payment preferences, and delivering a frictionless and secure manner when shopping on their favorite mobile sites on Google Chrome,” said Farhan S. Qureshi, Country Director, Google Malaysia.

He noted that as the first market in the region to offer this integration, Malaysia also has the potential to set a new standard for digital payment innovation across Southeast Asia.

It is noted that this integration of Google Pay with widely used local eWallets offers Malaysians a more efficient experience for their everyday online transactions, including shopping, food delivery, and bill payments.

When shopping at participating online merchants, users can select the Google Pay button at checkout or select “eWallet” when prompted in Chrome to pay directly with ShopeePay or TNG eWallet (an Alipay+ Partner), all without switching apps.

Users can now top up their preferred eWallet directly through Google Pay. Soon, they will also be able to view their balance there.

Users making first-time payments with their preferred eWallet on Google Pay will be prompted for a one-time verification for enhanced security.

Once completed, they will be able to make one-click payments through Google Pay subsequently, without the need for switching apps.

All payments made with Google Pay are secure, with each transaction requiring a fingerprint or PIN verification.

Users can start paying with merchants from Fiuu, such as Nando’s and US Pizza, and from iPay88, such as Alpro Pharmacy, TK Bakery and Yoyo Bus.
