BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, is partnering up with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) of Malaysia to advance the nation’s low-carbon mobility agenda.

A key focus of this collaboration is reducing carbon emissions through increased EV adoption in Malaysia, BYD Sime Motors said in a statement on Wednesday.

This partnership introduces a six-month program called “Jom Pandu BYD Bersama MOT”, supported by BYD Sime Motors’ partner, Gentari Sdn Bhd via Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, which has installed two electric vehicle (EV) chargers at the MOT headquarters.

The initiative allows MOT personnel to test drive BYD’s full range of EV models, providing firsthand experience in innovative electric mobility.

Through this initiative, BYD Sime Motors will loan its full EV lineup to MOT, including BYD SEALION 7, BYD SEAL, BYD ATTO 3 ULTRA, BYD M6, and BYD DOLPHIN.

This partnership allows MOT personnel to test drive these vehicles, providing them direct, practical insights into their performance, comfort, and everyday convenience. It also aims to enhance awareness of EV ownership and usability.

“BYD Sime Motors is proud to be at the forefront of this initiative in leading Malaysia’s transition to electric mobility together with the MOT. We remain focused on our goal of supporting the Ministry’s carbon emissions reduction efforts,

“Through this immersive experience, we hope to encourage greater adoption of electric vehicles, not only by the public but also within government mobility use,” said Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director for Southeast Asia, Sime Motors.

Beyond the product experience, the initiative marks a strategic step in creating viable pathways for EV integration within government operations, supporting the broader shift toward a sustainable and low-carbon transportation system.

It is noted that BYD Sime Motors, in partnership with Gentari, has installed two 22kW AC chargers at the Ministry’s headquarters in Putrajaya.

The installation underscores the importance of strong public-private partnerships in building a reliable, safe, and accessible EV charging network across Malaysia.

To date, Gentari operates over 530 EV charging points nationwide, actively contributing to the national target of 10,000 public chargers by 2025, in line with the National Energy Transition Roadmap.

Founded in 1995 as a rechargeable battery maker, BYD now boasts a diverse business scope covering automobiles, rail transit, new energy, and electronics, with over 30 industrial parks in China, the United States, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Hungary, and India.

The firm’s new energy vehicle footprint now covers six continents, over 70 countries and regions, and more than 400 cities.

Sime Motors is one of the core businesses of Sime Group, representing a wide array of marques from luxury names such as BMW, Denza, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Land Rover and Porsche to broad appeal brands including Ford, Hyundai and BYD, as well as commercial vehicles.

The firm has presence in ten markets namely Malaysia, Singapore, Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Indonesia.
