Malaysia’s Bintang Capital Partners invests in yoga and pilates firm The Flow Studio
Malaysia-based impact investment firm Bintang Capital Partners Berhad (Bintang) has announced its investment through BCP Asia Fund I L.P. in Project Studio Sdn Bhd (The Flow), a Malaysia-based pilates and yoga firm.
Bintang said in a statement on Friday that this landmark partnership not only fuels The Flow’s mission of enhancing community health and wellness through accessible high-quality fitness, but also marks it as the first female-led investee company within Bintang’s portfolio showcasing Bintang’s steadfast commitment to gender-lens investing.
This investment by Bintang paves the way for The Flow’s expansion across ASEAN markets, bringing quality, low-impact fitness options to more communities.
The company also plans to expand its corporate clientele, offering HRD Corp (HRDC) claimable tailored programs that enhance employee physical and mental wellness.
Furthermore, it aims to expand its offerings to reach specific groups who can benefit from low-impact training, including the elderly, for whom pilates and yoga can improve joint mobility and balance, and young children, who can gain foundational strength and flexibility from these activities – further highlighting its commitment to inclusivity and lifelong wellness.
“Gender lens investment opportunities have been something that the Bintang team and I have actively sought out since we launched our maiden fund BCP Asia Fund I back in 2022,
“The team and I are both delighted and honored that we have been given the opportunity by The Flow to work with them as they build a uniquely positioned wellness business which is already present in two geographies across ASEAN,” said Johan Rozali-Wathooth, Bintang Capital Partners’ Founder and Chief Executive Officer.
He noted that Bintang’s investment thesis is founded on the idea that approaches to wellness and fitness are changing in line with population demographics – as both younger and older members of society seek alternatives to the traditional fitness and wellness services offered by the market.
The Flow offers reformer pilates and yoga across seven state-of-the-art locations in Malaysia and three locations in Singapore.
Unlike most other studios in the region, it implements strict quality control measures to ensure every instructor is internationally certified, highly trained, and capable of handling a wide variety of body types, fitness levels, and injuries.
Catering to all fitness levels, It provides a thoughtfully designed range of classes from beginner to advanced, in a group and private setting, allowing members to progress at their own pace.
The studio also offers tailored classes for individuals undergoing injury recovery, as well as prenatal and postnatal sessions supporting women with safe, effective low-impact exercises.
Powered by a team of 40 passionate, predominantly female instructors, the firm delivers year-round classes and offers internationally accredited pilates instructor and yoga instructor certifications.
Its internationally accredited certification programs further amplify its impact, empowering the next generation of fitness professionals while supporting mothers to upskill and rejoin the workforce.
Since its inception in 2018, its Co-Founders Tiffany Yow and Lachlan McComiskie have grown The Flow into a household name.
Having returned to Malaysia from working abroad as a banking professional in Australia, Tiffany recognized a gap in the local fitness landscape whereby pilates – specifically reformer pilates – was prohibitively expensive and not programmed to be appealing to a younger crowd.
They observed that yoga in Malaysia was often viewed as traditional and spiritual, which also limited its appeal to younger individuals.
Inspired by Tiffany’s vision to make modern low-impact fitness accessible to working professionals, The Flow blends tradition with innovation and has its flowfam hooked on its signature The Flow method, achieving a fivefold increase in customer retention over the past three years.
With initiatives like the annual Flow Festival—drawing over 800 participants — the studio has solidified its role as a preeminent hub for health and community.
“At The Flow, we believe in creating sustainable societies — where people are able to find balance both physically and mentally through sustainable workouts and practices that enhance long-term health,
“With Bintang by our side, we’re ready to bring our mission to life for more people, empowering them to live well and feel their best. Enter The Flow, leave the outside world behind,” said Tiffany Yow, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Flow.
