Singtel’s regional data center arm, Nxera DCT Pte Ltd., has secured a S$643 million ($476 million) five-year green loan to finance the development of a new 58MW data center in Singapore, DC Tuas.

DBS, OCBC, Standard Chartered, HSBC and UOB are financing the loan and have been appointed as green loan coordinators, Singtel said in a statement on Friday.

The loan proceeds will go toward funding the development and capital expenditure of DC Tuas, Singapore’s most hyper connected green data center with the highest power density.

As part of the green loan criteria, DC Tuas has achieved the Green Mark Platinum certification awarded by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority and Infocomm Media Development Authority.

This reinforces Nxera’s commitment to sustainable design and operations.

“DC Tuas will feature a green design and build, as well as next-generation liquid cooling systems, making it ideal for meeting the demand from enterprises for high intensity compute and artificial intelligence (AI) workloads,” said Arthur Lang, Singtel Group Chief Financial Officer.

“Sustainability is a core part of our data center business, and we are committed to developing and growing the industry’s most sustainable, next-generation digital assets,

“This loan will enable us to support Singapore’s digital economy while reducing our carbon footprint in keeping with our net zero goals,” he added.

Nxera is committed to achieving scope 1 and 2 net-zero emissions by 2028 and embedding sustainability across every aspect of its business.

When operational in 2026, DC Tuas will support the growing enterprise demand for high-quality, sustainable digital infrastructure while optimizing land, power and water use.

It will offer a high-density environment suited for AI workloads and operate at a Power Usage Effectiveness of below 1.25 at full load, making it one of the most efficient in the industry.

It will also integrate next-generation cooling capable of supporting high computing power of more than 30kW per rack, with a highly efficient chilled water system and water recycling features that ensure maximum water efficiency.

This green loan is in line with the Group’s dedicated sustainable financing program, Olives, which links Singtel’s financing approach to its progress in achieving mid- to long-term sustainability goals.

Singtel first secured a S$535 million ($396 million) green loan in December 2023 to refinance the borrowings and to support the operations of DC West and DC Kim Chuan.
