Energy storage, passive cooling, biodegradable packaging, and blockchain traceability among key innovations to watch

As climate concerns and decarbonization targets reshape the global economy, Southeast Asia is emerging as a hotbed for green innovation—and Vietnam is doubling down. On April 16, 2025, the country’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) will host the Policy Dialogue Forum on Promoting Investment and Business Growth for Startups in Green Transition and Sustainable Development, a centerpiece event of the P4G Summit 2025, at the National Convention Center in Hanoi.

Organized by the National Startup Support Center (NSSC), this high-level forum is expected to draw investors, policy leaders, and entrepreneurs from across the region and beyond. With a sharp focus on green technologies developed by Vietnamese startups, the event will explore how local innovation is helping power the country’s push toward carbon neutrality, circular economy models, and global competitiveness.

EnergyTech: Thermal batteries and cooling solutions

Among the most anticipated technologies being showcased are those tackling energy consumption head-on. CENERGY, a startup recognized at TECHFEST Vietnam, has developed large-scale energy storage systems that address one of the biggest bottlenecks in renewable energy: storing excess power reliably and efficiently. Their systems are now being piloted to stabilize Vietnam’s national grid and reduce fossil fuel dependency.

Also in the spotlight is RARE COOLING, which offers a passive cooling technology using radiative paint—a solution that lowers indoor temperatures without consuming electricity. In a region where energy demand is growing rapidly due to urban heat, such low-impact innovations are gaining traction as scalable, climate-smart alternatives.

AgriTech: From biodegradable plastics to AI farming

Vietnam’s agricultural sector is also undergoing a digital and sustainable transformation, led by startups like BUYO and Enfarm. BUYO, a TECHFEST champion, produces biodegradable packaging made from sugarcane bagasse, reducing the plastic burden on supply chains while appealing to global corporations focused on ESG targets. The startup is already working with the 100+ Accelerator program alongside firms like AB InBev and Coca-Cola.

Meanwhile, Enfarm is transforming smallholder farming by providing AI-driven cultivation monitoring, market linkage, and digital recordkeeping tools. Its tech has been piloted with research institutes and validated at international agri-tech showcases, underscoring its potential for scale.

Other notable agritech startups to be highlighted include AIRX CARBON, which converts agricultural waste into eco-friendly export pallets, and NanoNeem, which leverages nanotechnology for safer, plant-based biopesticides.

Supply chain innovation: AI and blockchain for greener logistics

The logistics sector—often an overlooked source of emissions—will also be a key focus. Abivin, an early TECHFEST winner, has developed Abivin vRoute, an AI-powered route optimization platform that helps businesses cut fuel use and delivery times. Already deployed across Southeast Asia, the technology demonstrates how algorithmic efficiency can translate into measurable environmental gains.

On the traceability front, Otrafy is building blockchain-powered quality verification systems for global food supply chains. By enhancing transparency and reducing waste, Otrafy’s tech aligns with the growing demand for green logistics solutions in both export and domestic markets.

The bigger picture: Building a green startup ecosystem

Backed by the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) initiative, the forum is not just about showcasing innovation—it is designed to align policy, investment, and entrepreneurship to accelerate Vietnam’s green economy. Sessions will cover legal frameworks, international best practices, and competitive strategies for scaling sustainable ventures.

Event Details:

  • Date & Time: April 16, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:15 AM
  • Venue: Room 339, National Convention Center, Hanoi

NSSC: Orchestrating Vietnam’s green startup momentum

The event is being spearheaded by NSSC, the national hub for startup support under the Ministry of Science and Technology. Known for organizing TECHFEST Vietnam, NSSC plays a pivotal role in connecting early-stage ventures with global partners, capital, and regulatory support. Its efforts have helped elevate startups like BUYO, Abivin, and CENERGY into regional success stories.

As global interest in green growth intensifies, Vietnam’s approach—linking grassroots innovation with state-backed platforms like NSSC and the P4G Summit—may offer a compelling blueprint for emerging economies across Asia Pacific. For founders, investors, and technologists eyeing green opportunities in the region, the P4G Policy Dialogue Forum offers a timely window into the startups shaping Vietnam’s climate-smart future.
